Alberta Perinatal Health Program's role in implementation of the SOGC MOREOB program
October 15, 2004. To achieve the optimal level of health for expectant mothers and infants in the province, the Alberta Perinatal Health Program will work with health regions to develop and implement educational programs for health care professionals to reduce obstetrical risk in Alberta and improve the care of pregnant women in the hospital during delivery.
The program will receive $6,555,000 in funding. Health regions will cost share by providing training equipment, required technology and support services, as well as potential staff wage and replacement costs.
The Alberta Perinatal Health Program was established as a provincial program on July 1, 2004. Its role is to provide leadership and coordination, quality improvement, education, consultation and information management to achieve optimal health for expectant mothers and infants in Alberta. It builds on the previous work of the Alberta Medical Association Committee on Reproductive Care, the Northern and Central Alberta Perinatal Outreach Program and the Southern Alberta Perinatal Outreach Program.
The program is a partnership of Capital Health, Calgary Health Region, the Alberta Medical Association and Alberta Health and Wellness. The program works with all Alberta's health regions to improve perinatal health throughout the province.
