The Alberta Medical Association believes in putting Patients First®.

Awards and scholarships are just one of the ways we work to fulfill that mission by:

  • Contributing to new physicians in the health care system through scholarships and bursaries that help to defray the high costs of medical education.
  • Contributing to the sustainability of Alberta’s health care system through a scholarship for physicians seeking additional training in a clinical area of recognized need.
  • Promoting development of the physician's role as an advocate for healthy populations through a grant for physicians-in-training.
  • Recognizing physicians and others who have made significant contributions to medicine or to our health care system.

ADIUM Student Elective Travel Grant

This grant helps medical students pay the increasing costs of medical school.

AMA Committee on Student Affairs Sponsorship Program

Are you a medical student leader at the University of Calgary or the University of Alberta? The AMA Committee on Student Affairs Sponsorship Program provides support of student-run initiatives targeted at career advancement of medical students. The AMA allocates a budget annually for support of this sponsorship and all Alberta-based medical students are eligible to apply.

Alberta Medical Foundation Charitable Fund Project Grants

The Alberta Medical Foundation Charitable Fund Project Grants promotes interest in Alberta’s medical history by providing research grants of up to $10,000.00 to qualified scholars for original projects in the history of medicine and health care in Alberta.

Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Laureate

Canadian Medical Hall of Fame Laureates are Canadian citizens whose outstanding leadership and contributions to medicine and the health sciences, in Canada or abroad, have led to extraordinary improvements in human health.

Dr. Marnie Hinton Resident Award for Physician Wellness

The Dr. Marnie Hinton Award for Resident Physician Health sponsored by the Alberta Medical Association's Physician and Family Support Program with a generous donation by Bennett Jones LLP, is awarded annually to medical residents who have demonstrated interest in physician health.

Margaret Hutton History of Medicine and Health Care Student Research Scholarship

The Margaret Hutton History of Medicine and Health Care Student Research Scholarship exists to encourage original research by undergraduate medical trainees, post-graduate medical trainees, undergraduate and graduate students in the history of medicine and health care.

Dr. Michael Tarrant Scholarship

Are you doing a third-year clerkship in 2024 through the University of Alberta or the University of Calgary? Do you have a particular interest in pursuing studies and career development in rural medicine? If so, you can apply now for the Tarrant Scholarship! The Tarrant Scholarship provides funds for selected third-year medical students from the U of A and U of C who demonstrate a strong interest in developing their career in rural medicine. It is bestowed each year by the Alberta Medical Association’s Section of Rural Medicine.

Emerging Leaders in Health Promotion grant program

The AMA Emerging Leaders in Health Promotion grant program supports advocacy initiatives of physicians-in-training.

TD Insurance Meloche Monnex AMA Medical Student Bursary

The TD Insurance Meloche Monnex AMA Medical Student Bursary Program helps to reduce financial pressure from escalating medical school tuition fees so that every qualified student can afford to attend medical school.

TD Insurance Meloche Monnex AMA Scholarship

This scholarship was established with funding from TD Insurance Meloche Monnex to help physicians meet Alberta's changing medical needs.
