Update

The PCC is pleased to provide an update on the progress of the Physician Overhead Review project.

Recent Activities

Physician Overhead Review Project

The Physician Overhead Review project is underway. Deloitte has been engaged by Alberta Health (AH) and the Alberta Medical Association to lead the project in collaboration with the PCC, Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services and the AMA.

The purpose of this project is to research and estimate physician overhead costs and develop an analytic approach that will provide a better understanding of the various overhead costs across different medical sections, practice types, geographical locations, and practice sizes.

Recent project activities include the following:

  • Completion of the overhead study conceptual framework, which was reviewed and approved by the PCC.
  • Distribution of a pilot survey in late 2017 and a second, PDF survey in early 2018 to capture physician input and feedback from 54 section leaders.
  • Launch of the final survey on March 21, 2018 with distribution to 31 sections.

The PCC encourages all sections to participate in the survey, as this study will be used to inform a number of different PCC initiatives, including:

  • Allocation
  • Establishment of sections’ intra-sectional relative values (INRV’s)
  • Any future fee reviews
  • Any ARP rate reviews

Please plan to complete your survey submission by April 20, 2018.

Your completion and submission of the survey in a timely fashion is essential to ensure the project remains on track.

Upcoming project activities includes collating and validating survey results and developing an interim report of survey data.
