PCC Update

Dear AMA Members,
The Physician Compensation Committee (PCC), which last met on June 20, 2019, is pleased to provide an update on progress on the Strategic Requirements identified for April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2020.
Recent Activities
The PCC received the Overhead Cost Study results. In the June 20 meeting:
- PCC carried a motion that the PCC will not implement the results of the study during this financial term of the AMA agreement.
- PCC acknowledges that the AMA will move forward with the AMA Overhead Working Group preferred option as presented to the PCC meeting June 20, 2019 to improve our understanding of overhead.
- PCC will review further information as it becomes available from the AMA Overhead Working Group.
Other motions tabled and voted on during the June 20 meeting include:
- The PCC approved the Allocation Working Group recommendations for changes to the Schedule of Medical Benefits for October 1, 2019. These proposals will be provided to the Minister of Health for final approval, and specific details related to the changes will be communicated through an Alberta Health Medical Bulletin after the signing of a Ministerial Order.
- PCC voted in favour of supporting, in principle, the Schedule of Medical Benefits (SOMB) Redevelopment Steering Committee Terms of Reference as tabled by Alberta Health. The purpose of the Steering Committee is to support the development of a new SOMB to replace the current schedule, including health service codes, associated diagnostic codes, and assessment criteria.
