Canadian Anesthesia Return To Work Programme

November 16, 2019

Returning to work after a voluntary, temporary leave of absence can be challenging because of reduced confidence in one’s skills and ability to perform one’s job. This Canadian programme supports anesthesiologists in their return to work and is supported jointly by the Calgary Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine and the Edmonton Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

The programme aims to:

  • Update participants’ knowledge;
  • Provide hands-on practice/practical skills and experience in managing anesthesia crises/critical events through workshops, simulation, and group discussion; and
  • Provide peer support for non-clinical components of the return to work process.

Topics include: Airway, Pre-assessment, CICO skills and management, Critical anesthetic emergencies.
