Abnormal CBC and the Highs and Lows of Electrolytes

This program provides an update and review focused on practical, evidence-informed pearls pertinent for practice in primary care. Topics covered include a wide variety of the diagnoses typically seen in both urban and rural settings.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, learners will be equipped to:

  • review anemia, thrombocytopenia, neutropenia and lymphocytosis through a case based approach
  • identify when a family doctor should watch or refer their patient to a hematologist
  • provide strategies, resources and tools for primary care handling of patients with abnormal sodium and potassium electrolytes
  • initiate work up and management of sodium and potassium disorders in primary care
  • review diagnostic approaches to hypo/hypernatremia and hypo/hyperkalemia
