Financial Analyst (temporary)

The Alberta Medical Association is currently recruiting for the temporary role Financial Analyst with our Electronic Medical Record Funding Extension Program. This is a temporary role until March 31, 2019.

As the Financial Analyst you will have the opportunity to:

  • Prepare various financial reconciliations and analysis.
  • Perform business/data process analysis tasks that require working with others to gather requirements and review/document internal business processes.
  • Maintain strong customer-oriented relationships, ensuring that open and effective two-way communication exists to enable the verification of the accounting records, ensure compliance with established financial policies and procedures and answer queries.
  • Monitor physician funding to ensure the maximum funding cap is not exceeded.
  • Provide support for audits as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality with regard to the information being processed, stored or accessed.

As an ideal candidate you possess the following qualifications:

Education and experience

  • Undergraduate degree in business, accounting, economics, statistics or an equivalent discipline.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in querying financial applications or financial analysis and/or information technology experience in querying database applications.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in developing and maintaining Excel spreadsheets, analyzing data and reporting findings.
  • Must have a strong background in accounting and financial principles.


  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial reporting principles;
  • Strong background in business process analysis and requirements gathering;
  • Experience with SQL ad-hoc query reporting;
  • Familiarity with business intelligence and reporting technologies, such as Cognos 8, is considered an asset;
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic working environment,
  • Able to manage, evaluate and prioritize several tasks, conduct research, and maximize use of accounting technology;
  • Detailed-oriented with sharp analytical abilities, strong problem solving, critical thinking ability and sound judgment;
  • Able to communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing;
  • Strong facilitation, interpersonal, and knowledge transfer skills in order to achieve buy-in and support for new requirements from stakeholders;
  • Must be a self-starter and team player.
