The Alberta Medical Association is recruiting for a Security Analyst position with the Corporate Affairs, Information Systems department.

Position Overview

As the Security Analyst, you will be responsible for the management of AMA’s security monitoring tools including threat assessment, compliance reporting, gap analysis and remediation. A key function of your role will be to identify, assess, recommend and implement security related technologies and methodologies. This position will be based in Edmonton; however, occasional travel to our Calgary office may be required.

In addition to the above, as part of our dynamic and fun Information Systems team, you will:

  • Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing and threat analysis using various security testing tools.
  • Work with third parties to conduct security audits and produce assessment reports.
  • Proactively monitor AMA systems to protect the AMA from substantial harm of security breaches.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce security risk along with options to remediate or mitigate risk.
  • Assist in the development of policies, procedures and standards
  • Develop and facilitate security awareness training for IT team.

As an ideal candidate, you possess the following qualifications:

Education and experience

  • Diploma in computer science, computer systems engineering, software engineering or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and/or a Certified Ethical Hacker, would be considered assets.
  • Five years of experience with computer networking (TCP/IP), routing and switching, as well as an understanding of the fundamentals: the language, protocol and functioning of the internet.
  • Two years of direct, hands on experience configuring Security Incident & Event Management (SIEM) tools.
  • Two years of experience managing intrusion detection and prevention systems.

Technical skills/experience

  • Strong working knowledge of vulnerability and risk assessment and their importance to risk management.
  • Proven knowledge of data protection, cloud computing, forensics (investigations of breaches) and security assessments of network infrastructure, hosts and applications.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent report writing and communication skills.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines and budgets.
  • Organized, analytical thinker capable of solving complex problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; team orientation.
  • Ability to conduct research, multi-task, judge and prioritize tasks.
