This modifier is system derived from the information entered in the calls field when the Surgical Assistant Qualified Second Surgeon role modifier (SAQS) is used. EACH UNIT REPRESENTS 15 MINUTES.

| SAQU | SURGICAL ASSISTANT QUALIFIED SECOND SURGEON UNIT Surgical Assistant Qualified Second Surgeons are claimed on a time basis. Claim the entire elapsed time against the primary procedure, even if multiple procedures are done. (Example: If procedure A and B take a combined total of 2 hours, claim 2 hours against procedure A only). For SAQU each call covers 15 minutes, therefore 2 hours equal 8 calls. Please refer to Governing Rules 13.1, 13.2, and 13.4 for more information. |
