How can I support the Youth Run Club?

As a physician, resident or medical student, you serve as a source of good health inspiration and education to your patients and communities. The YRC frequently has volunteer opportunities available for AMA members, such as giving a talk or facilitating a presentation on the value of physical activity/healthy living to students. During the pandemic, presentations and talks are taking place virtually. Please email Jodi-Ann Sadler, AMA Professional Affairs, if you are interested in getting involved.

You can also support the Youth Run Club through donations. Your donation helps to provide resources and equipment to run clubs all over Alberta, giving more kids the chance to live healthy, active lifestyles.

Health Advocacy

With its focus on the development of life-long healthy habits – both physical and mental – for children and youth, the YRC provides an excellent opportunity for you to engage with your communities, in schools.

During the school year, the YRC hosts a number of Fun Runs at schools throughout Alberta. Most Fun Runs are YRC season launch events, held in September-October and April-to-June. When schools indicate that they would like to have an AMA representative (i.e. a member physician/resident/medical student) attend and speak at the event (and if possible, participate), we review our volunteer member database in search of an interested local representative.

If you would like to add your name and location/community to our YRC volunteer database, please email AMAYRC@albertadoctors.org.

Charitable donation – AMA membership form

When renewing your AMA membership, you can select the option (Step 10) on the membership form to support the AMA Youth Run Club with a charitable donation. Tax receipts are issued for contributions of $50 or more. Or you can donate online.
