Call for Applications: Health Issues Council

AMA's Health Issues Council is recruiting one member for a one-year* + one three-year term, renewable once

*There has been a mid-term vacancy with one year (October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022) left in the position's three-year term . The successful applicant will serve that final year of the term plus an additional full 3-year term (October 1, 2022 to September 30, 2025).

About HIC

HIC is a standing committee of the AMA and is directly accountable to the Board of Directors. The Council:

  • Assesses the needs and opportunities for Association activity in the health care arena.
  • Provides options and analysis to the Board for its review and decision.
  • Where directed, assists the Executive Director in implementing activities to achieve Board policies on health issues.

HIC oversees implementation of the AMA Youth Run Club (delivered in partnership with Ever Active Schools) and administers the Emerging Leaders in Health Promotion grants available to medical students and residents for health promotion projects.

HIC continually advocates on behalf of Albertans as new health issues arise and monitors longstanding areas of interest of the AMA such as seniors’ care.

The AMA advances patient-centered, quality care by advocating for and supporting physician leadership and wellness.
