AMA President-Elect: Call for Nominations

The Call for Nominations period for the 2020-21 president-elect is open. Nominations are due by 9 a.m., Friday, April 24.

If additional candidates come forward, an election will be held. If no further candidates come forward the nominee of the Nominating Committee will be acclaimed.

The 2020-21 president-elect term begins September 26 at the adjournment of the AMA’s Representative Forum in Calgary when the current President-Elect Dr. Paul Boucher becomes president.

Per the AMA Bylaws, the AMA’s Nominating Committee is tasked with identifying one nominee for the position of president-elect but other candidates may also come forward from the general membership.

The nominee from the Nominating Committee is Dr. Vesta Michelle Warren.Dr. Warren is a rural family physician in Sundre. She is a long-standing AMA member, and is currently a member of the AMA Compensation Committee and the Section of Rural Medicine Executive. Dr. Warren has been a Central Zone (Region 4) Representative Forum delegate since 2015.

Dr. Warren is a Rural General Specialist at the Moose & Squirrel Medical Clinic in Sundre; Staff physician for Alberta Health Services at the Sundre Hospital; Assistant Clinical Professor Department of Family Medicine at the U of A, undergraduate and graduate medical preceptor; and Associate Clinical Professor Department of Family Medicine at the U of C, undergraduate and graduate medical preceptor.

The Nominating Committee considers a variety of factors when selecting the president-elect nominee to ensure an appropriate mix of representation from year to year in specialty, practice location and gender, as well as demonstrated experience and abilities.
