AMA Youth Run Club volunteer opportunities for 2019

Calling all interested AMA members! There are several school-based, YRC Fun Runs scheduled across the province in May and June. Find out more about these volunteer opportunities that require minimal time and deliver maximum reward.

Edmonton

Treaty Track & Field Meet

NEEDED: Volunteers to help with the event
Date/Time:
Thursday, May 30, 2019 I 9:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Event details: Students in grades 4-12 participate in this track meet. Over 200 participants from nine communities attended the meet in 2018 and we expect similar attendance this year.
Where: Foote Field - 11601 68 Ave NW, Edmonton
How you can help: Assistance is required with running events, taking measurements, raking the pits, retrieving balls, etc. Volunteers are NOT required for the entire day; whatever amount of time you can volunteer would be greatly appreciated.

Fort McMurray

Fort McMurray Fun Run

NEEDED: Speaker (AMA physician, resident physician or medical student – to give 2-minute ‘speech’)
Date/Time:
Wednesday, June 5, 2019 I 11:30 a.m.
Time speaker is required: 11:25 - 11:45 a.m. (speech delivered in that timeframe)
Where: Ecole St Paul Elementary School – 429 Ross Haven Dr., Fort McMurray
Audience: Students and staff from various schools in the surrounding area.
How you can help: Give a 2-minute speech (provided by the AMA), welcoming participants and briefly speaking about the benefits of physical activity. You are also welcome to stay and participate in the event.

Linsford Park School Run

NEEDED: Speaker (AMA physician, resident physician or medical student – to give 2-minute ‘speech’)
Date/Time: Wednesday, June 12, 2019 I 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Time speaker is required: 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. (speech delivered in that timeframe)
Where: Linsford Park School – 4502 51 Street, Leduc
Audience: Students and staff from Linsford Park School
How you can help: Give a 2-minute speech (provided by the AMA), welcoming participants and briefly speaking about the benefits of physical activity. You are also welcome to stay and participate in the event.

NEEDED: Speaker (AMA physician, resident physician or medical student – to give 2-minute ‘speech’)

Time speaker is required: 1:10 - 1:15 p.m.
Where: Ecole Mother D’Youville School – 5330 Rue Parc, Beaumont, AB T4X 1W4
Audience: Students and staff from Ecole Mother D’Youville School
How you can help: Give a 2-minute speech (provided by the AMA), welcoming participants and briefly speaking about the benefits of physical activity. You are also welcome to stay and participate in the event.

Fairview School Run

NEEDED: Speaker (AMA physician, resident physician or medical student – to give 2-minute ‘speech’)
Date/Time: Tuesday, June 18 I 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.
Time speaker is required: 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. (speech delivered in that timeframe)
Where: Fairview School – 5901 55 St, Red Deer
Audience: Students and staff from Fairview School
How you can help: Give a speech (prepared by the AMA) for approximately 2 to 3 minutes to welcome the participants and briefly speak about the benefits of physical activity. You are also welcome to stay and participate in the event.
