Dr. Karenn Chan

Dr. Karenn Chan is an assistant professor and Care of the Elderly Physician with the Division of Care of the Elderly, Department of Family Medicine at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Chan's clinical practice includes working as part of both the inpatient geriatric consult service at the Grey Nuns Hospital and the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) Team in Supportive Living. As part of the Supportive Living GEM Team, Dr. Chan manages many patients with neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia. Prior to this, Dr. Chan spent seven years as a consultant within Home Living.

Dr. Chan is a court certified expert witness in the areas of Family Medicine, Care of the Elderly, and Capacity Assessment, which is an area of special interest for her.

Dr. Chan's research interests include improving wellbeing for persons affected by dementia in the community setting, supporting caregivers, and strategies for teaching person-centered care to medical learners. Dr. Chan is an active collaborator and leader in the Seniors Health Strategic Clinical Network's provincial Primary Health Care Integrated Geriatric Service Initiative.
