Committee on Bylaws

The bylaws of the Alberta Medical Association establish the governing framework for the organization by defining its structure, authority, and processes. They set out the roles and responsibilities of members and governing bodies, outline decision-making procedures, and ensure the Association operates in a transparent, accountable, and lawful manner in support of its mandate and objectives.

Committee Details

The AMA Committee on Bylaws reviews proposed amendments to the bylaws, provides at least 60 days’ notice of proposed changes, and submits them to the membership for a vote at the Annual General Meeting.

If the bylaws are approved at the Annual General Meeting, they are filed with the Alberta Corporate Registry, a process that may take up to six months. The approved amendments take effect once filing is complete.

The Committee on Bylaws is comprised of the following members:

Serving on the Committee on Bylaws involves:

  • A minimum of once per year meeting in June (approximately 3 hours virtually)
  • Review of meeting materials
  • Additional meetings as required
