Informing and guiding advocacy
The Joint Physician Advocacy Committee (JPAC) was formed in 2021 as a way to bring together family physicians and specialists to help guide the AMA’s advocacy efforts and support grassroots physician advocacy. JPAC reports to the AMA Board of Directors and serves as a liaison between members and the AMA on advocacy.
The JPAC will initiate, lead, coordinate and support grassroots physician advocacy efforts and will provide input and insight into the AMA’s advocacy strategy and plans. This body will generate and guide the flow of general advocacy information and messages for members, and will act as the consultation group on advocacy matters and concerns that impact the AMA and Alberta’s health care system.
Over the past few years, JPAC has played an essential role in many of the AMA’s advocacy initiatives, including the Acute Care Concerns Series and the AMA’s Informed Reform advertising campaign. It has also led work on specific advocacy issues, such as the family medicine crisis and AISH reforms.
