Section of Associate Physicians

Join Us! If you’re not already a member of the Section of Associate Physicians, consider joining. We need your perspective, your ideas and your insight.  Let your voice be heard. When you become a section member, you pay applicable section dues in addition to AMA membership dues. The section receives 100% of the dues collected to support the work of your section. Introducing the Section of Associate Physicians

Recently, Alberta Health Services renamed the roles of Clinical Assistant and Clinical Surgical Assistant to Associate Physician. AHS made this change after receiving significant feedback from CA/CSAs that their job titles did not accurately reflect the scope and duties of the positions.

Accordingly, the AMA’s Section of Clinical Assistants has now been renamed to the Section of Associate Physicians. This is simply a change in name and will not affect our section membership process or its governance.

This title change is good news. Associate Physician better reflects our scope of work, educational background and training, and it is better aligned with the title of our roles in other jurisdictions across Canada.

Voting members of a section
Receive an invitation to attend the AGM, vote on business, serve as an executive member, have access to secure information (AGM minutes, section bylaws) and receive timely and informative section-related communications.
Non-voting members of a section
Receive the benefits above, except for voting and serving on the executive.

Grants and dues

The AMA provides financial support to sections with grant dollars. For each AMA member who designated the section as their representative at the AMA RF, the section receives:

$30.00 for each member,
$15.00 for each 1st year in practice member and,
$4,000 to support general operating costs for the section.
