The AMA is the only voice for physicians that spans all of the areas of the health care system. It will be integral to making sure that the new pillars and organizations all work together.
Dr. Fell graduated from the University of Calgary in 1995 (the Quokkas) and completed her family medicine residency in Calgary in 1997. She is a co-owner of a longitudinal family medicine clinic in Calgary and a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Calgary.
Dr. Fell has been involved with the AMA since medical school in the early 1990s, when she was on the Communications Committee. She worked for POSP from 2003 until it ended; has been a Representative Forum regular since 2014; an SFM Executive member since May 2022; a Rates Committee member since November 2022 and a member of the AMA Informatics Advisory Committee since 2013, becoming chair in 2017 and then most recently Informatics Medical Director in 2023.
The AMA staff are always top-notch and pushing to get the best results for physicians that they can. I also love connecting with colleagues from across the province and trying to solve meaningful problems with them.
Dr. Fell loves hanging out with family and scrapbooking. She recently celebrated her 30th wedding anniversary. She holds a 4th degree black belt in karate, which helps keep her sane and fit.
On her favourite AMA memory:
There are so many that I can’t choose just one, but I always remember best the people that I worked with over the years, both physicians and staff. It is fun to encounter them years later in other roles and reconnect!
