Top 5 Highlights of 2024-25

  1. Launch of the Primary Care Physician Compensation Model (PCPCM)

    • Went live April 1, 2025.
    • 1,027 physicians enrolled by September 2, representing ~49% of eligible physicians at time of launch.
    • Designed to support longitudinal care and improve income equity.
    • Estimated 25% income increase for full-time family physicians.
  2. Successful Resolution of Cancer Care Compensation

    • Four-year agreement secured after 18 months of advocacy and arbitration.
    • 11% increase in year one, 20.1% compounded over the term.
    • Strengthens Alberta's ability to recruit and retain cancer care specialists.
  3. Income Equity Initiative Gains Momentum

    • Work continued to improve the Income Equity Measure.
    • Measure helped to inform AMA priorities, like PCPCM.
    • Strong support from section presidents for IEI and the Board's proposed approach.
  4. Acute Care Stabilization Proposal and Campaign

    • Elevated urgent concerns in oncology, surgery, internal medicine, OB/GYN and pediatrics.
    • Garnered widespread media coverage and public engagement.
    • Provided government with a physician-led roadmap for stabilizing acute care.
  5. AMA Organization Restructuring for System Alignment

    • New medical director roles aligned with health system pillars.
    • Geographic governance specialists introduced across corridors.
    • Innovation & Insights Hub launched to support evidence-based decision-making.
