Are you looking for a new leadership opportunity? Do you want to contribute your voice to strengthen our association and profession? The Alberta Medical Association has several opportunities that can help cultivate your leadership skills while playing a vital role in the governance and success of the AMA. 

AMA members are the foundation of the association, bringing expertise, advocacy and leadership that reinforce the profession and improve patient care. You are not just members – you are the driving force behind the AMA’s work to protect and enhance health care in Alberta.

The AMA is recruiting to fill upcoming vacancies on the below roles with terms from October 2025 to 2028. All EOIs/applications must be received by May 16. Member login is required to apply

AMA Speaker
The AMA Speaker presides over the AMA Representative Forum and Annual General Meeting, and all other general and special meetings of the AMA and RF.

Deputy Speaker
The Deputy Speaker, when requested or when the speaker is absent, deputizes for the speaker and assumes all rights, duties and responsibilities of the speaker. 

AMA Compensation Committee - two member positions  
AMACC assists the AMA Board of Directors to oversee physician compensation systems and programs, including an annual review of AMA’s Physician Compensation Strategy. 

Committee on Bylaws - one member position 
The Committee on Bylaws evaluates matters concerning the bylaws and similar topics. They provide recommendations and report to the Board at the Annual General Meeting. 

Committee on Financial Audit - one member position 
COFA supports the Board in overseeing AMA's finances by reviewing financial statements, ensuring regulatory compliance, monitoring the employee pension fund and evaluating the annual business plan and budget. 

Fees Advisory Committee - one chair and three member positions 
FAC advises on fee allocations, reviews and approves the Schedule of Medical Benefits (SOMB) updates, recommends intra-section relativity values (INRV) based on AMA economic section input and addresses appeals or disputes over SOMB fee code changes. 

Health Issues Council - one chair and four member positions
HIC identifies needs and opportunities for AMA activities in health care, advocates for Albertans on emerging health issues and monitors AMA interests such as seniors’ care and health equity.
