A new eight-course curriculum for non-family medicine specialists plus team members with a caseload and the clinic staff who support them aims to improve patient access to care.
The on-demand, virtual training offers strategies to address factors that lead to delays in patient access, helping patients get the care they need when they need it.
Why Access Matters
Evidence shows improved access not only enhances the patient experience but also boosts the satisfaction of healthcare providers and clinic teams. The training emphasizes how even small changes can have a significant impact on the overall efficiency of a clinic and benefit both patients and providers.
These benefits include:
- Patients being seen more quickly
- Improved team processes
- Fewer patient no-shows
COURSE DESIGN
The evidence-informed modules were developed by an ACTT curriculum team and reviewed by Alberta physicians, including Dr. Emma Billington who says, "it’s obvious how much work went into making it approachable for busy clinicians, and the topics were very relevant to my practice as a specialist physician". She continues,
I will absolutely be recommending this to my colleagues, and I think it should be strongly encouraged for all new-to-practice specialists.
