Dear Members,
Today we launched the latest profile in our Informed Reform campaign:
Strengthening Public Health. The article explores the vital role of public health in Alberta, highlighting its impact on our province’s well being and its deep connection to nearly every sector Albertans rely on. It outlines the human, system and economic costs of a weakened public health infrastructure and sets out the foundational requirements for a high-performing system.
As I shared in last week’s letter, the AMA continues to advocate strongly for Albertans to receive the evidence-based public health services they deserve—including equitable access to vaccines. But to think of public health only in terms of vaccination does it a disservice.
Public health is a smart, long-term investment in the health and resilience of Alberta. It is the invisible infrastructure that underpins every aspect of our communities. When it’s under-resourced, the consequences are felt everywhere.
Through Informed Reform, we’re continuing to position physicians as trusted leaders in shaping health policy and quality care. Together, we help shape a stronger, more equitable health care system for all Albertans.
