Tropical and Geographic Medicine Essentials

Offered by The University of British Columbia, this course is designed for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, public health practitioners and other clinicians who require up-to-date knowledge of infectious, parasitic and other major tropical diseases relevant to global and travel medicine practice.

Course Goals

Through interactive lectures and small-group sessions, participants will:

  • Gain practical, evidence-based approaches for diagnosing and managing common tropical and travel-related illnesses.
  • Strengthen their ability to assess and treat refugees and returning travellers through improved recognition of high-risk presentations and appropriate screening strategies.
  • Build confidence in applying tropical medicine principles to practice via case discussions, clinical algorithms and focused updates.

The course covers three core areas: Clinical Tropical Medicine, Migrant and Refugee Health and Tropical and Travel Medicine Immunization.
