Billing help
The AMA strives to make it as easy as possible for members to correctly bill the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.
We offer billing support to members and their billing teams through direct representation and advocacy with Alberta Health, on-line resources and education offerings.
We can help you understand claims results and help when claims are paid incorrectly by Alberta Health, due to things like systems error or inconsistent understanding/misapplication of billing rules.
Member education opportunities
AMA's general billing seminars cover topics of interest and provide a wide range of helpful billing tips to members and their staff (note that pre-registration is required). Recordings of billing seminars are made available online for members to view at their convenience.
The AMA offers targeted education sessions for sections, individuals or small groups. These sessions are tailored to the individual’s or group’s needs and are interactive to ensure members get the most out of them. Online resources
We also offer many helpful, easy to use, on-line resources:
- AMA’s Fee Navigator® helps members better understand the Alberta Schedule of Medical Benefits, making billing easier, quicker and more accurate.
- AMA's Billing Corner provides members with information about upcoming Schedule changes, so that those changes can be appropriately applied at the practice level.
- AMA billing tips will give you clear and specific information about codes that are commonly misunderstood.
- Billing Matters is an AMA eNewsletter created by the AMA Peer Review Committee. Its purpose is to assist with the peer review process and educate physicians of the appropriateness of fee-for-service claims.
In addition, Alberta Health’s Physician Resource Guide helps physicians and their billing staff to understand claims information requirements and how to claim in specific situations.
