Dr. Prenilla Naidu is a medical microbiologist with international experience in pediatrics, neonatology, general practice and health system leadership. Guided by a firm commitment to safe, equitable care, she draws on her academic expertise and work across multiple health care systems to advance quality care in Alberta’s evolving health landscape.

Why quality matters
As a laboratory physician, quality is the cornerstone of Dr. Naidu’s daily work. She believes that health care is a fundamental right and that every patient deserves safe, effective and equitable care. Drawing on her experience in South Africa, the UK, and Canada, Dr. Naidu brings a global perspective to ensuring high-quality health care, especially during times of health care reorganization and the move toward privatization in Alberta.
Beyond the bedside
Dr. Naidu currently works at the Edmonton-based laboratory and a referral clinic in St. Albert. Over 25 years in Canada, she has held numerous leadership roles including STI Lead for Alberta, Co-chair of the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Syphilis Working Group, and executive member of the Alberta Medical Association Section of Laboratory Physicians. She is also a board member of the Edmonton Zone Medical Staff Association.
An Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, Dr. Naidu serves on the editorial board of Travel Medicine and Infectious Diseases and is a reviewer for multiple high-impact journals.
