Section of Respiratory Medicine

Join Us! If you’re not already a member of the Section of Respiratory Medicine, consider joining. We need your perspective, your ideas and your insight. Let your voice be heard.

When you become a section member, you pay applicable section dues in addition to AMA membership dues. The section receives 100% of the dues collected to support the work of your section.

AMA Respiratory Medicine Travel Scholarship now accepting applications

The AMA Section of Respiratory Medicine is now accepting applications for its 2026 Travel Scholarship, which supports respiratory medicine trainees pursuing travel electives — particularly international experiences focused on learning unique skills within respirology.

Between one and three scholarships in an amount of up to $3,000 CAD per scholarship will be awarded. Applications close August 31, 2026.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Active, current AMA member
  2. Member of the AMA Section of Respiratory Medicine
  3. Trainee in respiratory medicine
  4. Applicants for international electives will be given priority
  5. Applicants for upcoming or future travel electives will also be given priority; however, we will consider applications for travel electives that have been completed
  6. Provide one reference from either a current or past preceptor

Benefits

Voting members of a section
Receive an invitation to attend the AGM, vote on business, serve as an executive member, have access to secure information (AGM minutes, section bylaws) and receive timely and informative section-related communications.
Non-voting members of a section
Receive the benefits above, except for voting and serving on the executive.

Grants and dues

The AMA provides financial support to sections with grant dollars. For each AMA member who designated the section as their representative at the AMA RF, the section receives:

$30.00 for each member,
$15.00 for each 1st year in practice member and,
$4,000 to support general operating costs for the section.
