Respiratory Medicine Travel Scholarship

The AMA Section of Respiratory Medicine offers a travel scholarship to support respiratory medicine trainees pursuing elective learning opportunities, particularly international electives focused on observing and developing unique skills within respirology.

Between one and three scholarships in an amount of up to $3,000 CAD per scholarship will be awarded annually.

The travel elective scholarship was first established in 2025. Funding is provided by the AMA Section of Respiratory Medicine through annual section membership dues.

Upon completion of the elective, successful recipients will be required to submit proof of attendance (e.g., a letter from their preceptor).

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  1. Active, current AMA member
  2. Member of the AMA Section of Respiratory Medicine
  3. Trainee in respiratory medicine
  4. Applicants for international electives will be given priority
  5. Applicants for upcoming or future travel electives will also be given priority; however, we will consider applications for travel electives that have been completed
  6. Provide one reference from either a current or past preceptor

Application deadline

Completed applications must be submitted to [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2026.

All applications will be reviewed together after the submission deadline by the Section of Respiratory Medicine executive committee.

Successful applicants

Will be notified by AMA Section Services no later than October 15, 2026
