Operations and Member Service is accountable for ensuring effective financial management, control assurance, internal audit, human resources management, facilities management, procurement, asset management, business planning and administrative services. The branch is also accountable for the effective delivery of AMA Member Services such as benefits programs and insurance, including Physician and Family Support Program, Medical Liability Reimbursement, Continuing Medical Education, Parental Leave and physician insurance and wealth management programs.

The AMA’s Physician Compensation and Economics (PCE) branch is an interdisciplinary team of physician compensation experts with deep understanding of:
- AMA’s Physician Compensation Strategy
- Physician compensation models and health policy
- Compensation analytics
- Economic environment and context
- The fee-for-service Schedule of Medical Benefits and alternative payment mechanisms (including maintenance and modernization)
Informatics works with provincial agencies and other interested parties to advocate for improved interoperability, enhanced care coordination, decreased administrative burden and inclusive governance and planning. These digital health priorities are continually reviewed and assessed based on ongoing consultation and feedback from members.
The Informatics team along with the Informatics Advisory Committee:
- Creates policy to support members in the use and adoption of informatics and AI in healthcare
- Represents AMA members on informatics working groups and governance tables, in both clinical and leadership roles
- Collaborates with provincial ministries and agencies, providing feedback and advice on priorities, strategy and implications related to provincial initiatives
- Prioritizes and analyzes informatics issues to the AMA Board for awareness, advice and direction
- Facilitates the triage and resolution of informatics concerns raised by members
- Works with partners such as provincial medical associations, colleges and national agencies, leveraging expertise and ongoing work and developing and sharing resources to support physicians in all areas of informatics.

The Governance branch is accountable for the processes, controls, records and communications related to the AMA’s registration, constitution, bylaws, elections and governance bodies. This portfolio includes the processes associated with the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Representative Forum and relationships with geographic and section representation, AMA committees and other bodies. The Governance branch also supports the AMA governance structure and Chief Executive Officer who is responsible for financial management for all aspects of the budget process for AMA core activities and programs.
The AMA’s Representation and Negotiations branch leads the Association’s efforts to represent and advocate for physicians through strategic negotiation, engagement and relationship management. The branch is responsible for the full spectrum of physician representation and negotiations across Alberta’s health system. Key areas of responsibility include:
- Leading and managing all negotiations on behalf of Alberta physicians, including the Provincial Master Agreement with the Government of Alberta, WCB, etc., as well as other critical provincial and sector-specific negotiations
- Supporting the implementation and operational management of negotiated agreements, ensuring alignment with physician interests and system-wide priorities
- Engaging physicians in academic medicine and representing their interests through participation in and support for the Academic Medicine Health Services Program (AMHSP)
- Leading the negotiation and implementation of the Master AMHSP Agreement and the Individual Services Agreement (ISA) template for academic physicians
- Provide representation and negotiation support for physician groups considering an Alternate Relationship Plan
- Overseeing the implementation of legislation recognizing the AMA’s formal representation rights for all physicians, including related operational, legal and advocacy components
- Managing and resolving disputes related to representation, agreements and physician concerns, including the development and administration of dispute resolution frameworks and mediation processes
- Ensuring consistent and effective physician engagement, incorporating feedback from a diverse membership to guide negotiation strategy, issue identification and advocacy
- Monitoring changes in the legal, policy and health care environment and proactively developing strategies to protect and advance physician interests within the provincial system.
