Highlighting dedicated ACTT Physician Leads and their contributions to advancing health care
Dr. Trevor Day
Family Physician

What is something people may not know about you?
I meditate nightly. It helps me build equanimity so I can respond – not react – in emotionally charged situations. Building this skill has helped me as a clinician, a leader and as a person.
What appealed to you about becoming an ACTT Physician Lead?
It is a wonderful opportunity to further develop my leadership skills, while also being able to connect with my colleagues throughout the province.
What has been your favourite part, experience or accomplishment about being an ACTT Physician Lead?
The last six years have been difficult times for family doctors. Our patients (and our jobs) are becoming more complex, and as the system buckles under the ongoing strain more patient care is being offloaded onto our family practices. I’ve been involved in the referral space over the last few years working with Zone and Provincial Leadership to try and reduce the growing administrative burden we all face. I have also been involved in the development, socialization and launch of the Primary Care Physician Compensation Model (PCPCM), which has been immensely rewarding.
What are you looking forward to doing in the future as an ACTT Physician Lead?
With the launch of any new compensation model there will be speedbumps – there always are. I’m looking forward to continuing to support my colleagues as they onboard to the PCPCM and providing the most value I can to our profession.
What else would you like to share about your experience as an ACTT Physician Lead?
One of my favourite quotes, paraphrased, is “success is just going from difficulty to difficulty without losing your enthusiasm”. In the short term, physician leadership can often feel like banging one’s head against the wall. However, with time, the small value adds turn into small wins, which then compound into bigger wins. Said another way, it’s not about how fast you go, it’s about how far you go.
