COVID-19 impacts on AMA group insurance programs:

 

Following government regulations, Dynacare ceased conducting lab analysis on March 17, 2020. Therefore, Manulife has been unable to obtain lab results for the purpose of insurance since March 23, 2020. Due to these restrictions, Manulife has now released new testing limits until May 31st, 2020.

 

Life Insurance

  • Healthy non-smoking clients can now get coverage without biometrics/fluids on Life coverage as follows:
    • Ages 18-50 - up to $2 million (previous limit $1M)
    • Ages 51-60 – up to $1 million (previous limit $100,000)
  • Non-smoker rates will apply, and preferred rates will not be available.
  • Manulife will proactively review pending applications on a case by case basis.

Disability and Professional Overhead Expense Insurance

  • In addition to the temporary Life routine requirements, Manulife is also adopting temporary Disability requirement guidelines (until June 30, 2020).
  • Illness and death from COVID-19 are covered under the Disability, Professional Overhead Expense and Term Life plans.
  • Asymptomatic and symptomatic quarantine periods will count towards the completion of the elimination periods for Disability and Professional Overhead Expense insurance. Beyond the quarantine period, the waiting period must be completed due to an illness.

Manulife will continue to work alongside AMA to process all claims arising from COVID-19 according to the terms and conditions of our policies.
