Supporting information

The AMA offers accounting services to sections. These services help reduce the administrative burden on Section Presidents and Treasurers, giving them more time to focus on important section business. The services are provided at no cost and include:

  • Monthly financial statement preparation
  • Bill payment and bank deposits
  • Processing of committee expenses including payment of honoraria or stipends and related expenses such as travel, meals and honoraria
  • All required government reporting (GST, Payroll)
  • Assistance with the annual budgeting process
  • Adhoc financial reporting and analysis
  • Accounting and financial advice

Please note that AMA staff can work with section treasurers to close old bank accounts, transfer the book of accounts to the AMA, etc. Through its accounting services, the AMA is also able to pass on other corporate services and benefits to sections, such as:

  • Higher interest rates on bank balances
  • Recovery of GST on most expenses
  • Direct deposit to vendors and committee members
  • Easy transitions when section executive change and maintenance of corporate history
  • A mechanism to satisfy the sections financial audit requirement

The AMA provides financial support to sections. Sections receive support grant dollars in the following amounts:

  • $25 for each AMA member ($12.50 for each first-year in practice member) who designated the section as his/her representative at the Representative Forum (RF)
  • $3,000 to support general base operating costs for the section
