Register for the AMA's Annual General Meeting

September 27, 2022

Join us Monday, October 3, at 7 p.m. for the 117th Annual General Meeting of the Alberta Medical Association. This is an opportunity to hear about important business of the AMA, as well as your chance to vote on bylaw changes and nominate members for key positions. You will also hear Dr. Vesta Michelle Warren's valedictory address as well as comments from the new AMA president, Dr. Fredrykka Rinaldi, about the year ahead. Note that only AMA members are eligible to vote at the AGM. To allow time to confirm membership status, Members must register by 4 p.m., Monday, October 3 in order to be eligible to vote. As there may be a delay for verification of membership status, voting eligibility cannot be guaranteed for members registering after that time.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

September 26, 2022

On September 30, AMA offices will be closed as we commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The AMA supports the aims of this important day and is hosting an optional one-hour webinar for AMA staff so that they may learn more about the history of the residential school system. For members with questions on billing for this day, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a federal statutory holiday but not a provincial statutory holiday in Alberta. Claims for the date of service September 30 will be claimed as a weekday and are not eligible for additional after hours or surcharge payments during the daytime hours e.g., TST, WK, etc.

Primary Care 2030 White Paper

Celebrating Alberta’s family physicians on World Family Doctor Day

The Alberta College of Family Physicians and Alberta Medical Association are proud to celebrate Family Doctor Day, which occurs annually on May 19. First declared by WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors) in 2010, World Family Doctor Day recognizes the outstanding contributions of family doctors in health care systems around the world.

15 student-run initiatives awarded funding from sponsorship program

The Committee on Student Affairs recently met to review sponsorship applications and chose 19 student-run projects/events to receive funding. An email from the AMA to all organizers will be sent out with more information. The sponsorship program provides support of student-run initiatives targeted at career advancement of medical students. The AMA allocates a budget annually for support of this sponsorship and all Alberta-based medical students are eligible to apply.

MD Financial Management and Scotiabank support the Alberta Medical Association

The Alberta Medical Association has joined seven other provincial and territorial medical associations, now representing more than 44,000 physicians, in choosing to enter an exclusive five-year partnership agreement with MD Financial Management and Scotiabank.

Influenza Immunization Program Update

This year, community physicians (primary care clinics and family physicians) participating in the influenza immunization program will receive vaccine from the wholesale distributor, Accuristix in collaboration with Alberta Health (AH), and order through the Alberta Vaccine Inventory (AVI) system. This process is similar to the one used for ordering COVID-19. Alberta Health has provided information for interested clinics on how to join and the new requirements for participating. Other community providers, including continuing care centers, OHS and corrections facilities must fill out the Influenza Vaccine Provider Registration Form.

Reminder: AMA IT services, including email, websites and online member self-serve applications (e.g., AMA Fee Navigator®), will be largely unavailable tomorrow (May 22) from 6 a.m. - 8 p.m. Some services will be restored by 9 a.m. and websites and self-service apps should be available later in the afternoon. Additional short outages may be required over the remainder of the long weekend. The outage is required to update our datacenter infrastructure which will improve website reliability, uptime, security and connectivity.
