The April 1 SOMB reflects only changes made pursuant to the Individual Fee Review of the Physician Compensation Committee as well as the SOMB Rule Changes Initiative. The April 1, 2017 SOMB scheduled adjustment (a cost-of-living increase) is being held back as an amount at risk under the Amending Agreement. A reconciliation process to be completed no later than June 30, 2018 will determine whether the payment will be made to physicians.

CPSA rolls out new prescribing rules to help combat opioid crisis

A new process for prescribing high-risk drugs like opioids, benzodiazepines, sedatives and stimulants will improve physician prescribing and enhance patient safety. Approved by the Council of the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), the new standard of practice on Prescribing: Drugs with Potential for Misuse or Diversion comes into effect April 1, 2017.

Update from the IFHP

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is moving to a ten-digit client ID (Unique Client Identifier – UCI) number to accommodate an increasing number of applicants. Effective December 15, 2016, ten-digit UCIs will be issued to new beneficiaries of the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP). Client IDs for existing beneficiaries will not change.
