The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) believes in putting Patients First®.
Awards and scholarships are just one of the ways we work to fulfill that mission by:
- Contributing to new physicians in the health care system through scholarships and bursaries that help to defray the high costs of medical education.
- Contributing to the sustainability of Alberta’s health care system through a scholarship for physicians seeking additional training in a clinical area of recognized need.
- Promoting development of the physician's role as an advocate for healthy populations through a grant for physicians-in-training.
- Recognizing physicians and others who have made significant contributions to medicine or to our health care system.

AMA Achievement Awards
AMA's Achievement Awards honor contributions to quality health care in Alberta.
AMA Long-Service Award
AMA's Long-Service Award honors physicians who contribute to the advancement of the profession.
AMA Member Emeritus
AMA Member Emeritus is presented to members for contributions to the profession and the association.
AMA Award for Compassionate Service
Do you know an AMA member who has given back to the community, locally, nationally or internationally? Nominate him or her for the AMA Award for Compassionate Service!
CMA Special Awards
The CMA presents awards to those who've helped raise the standards of health care delivery or medical practice in Canada.
Scholarships, bursaries and grants
ADIUM Student Elective Travel Grant
This grant helps medical students pay the increasing costs of medical school.
AMA Medical Student Bursary
The AMA Medical Student bursaries help ensure that every qualified student can afford to attend medical school.
AMF Margaret Hutton Research Proposal Grant
The Margaret Hutton History of Medicine and Health Care Student Research Grant exist to encourage original research by undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, undergraduate and graduate students in the history of medicine and health care.
Dr. Michael Tarrant Scholarship
The Tarrant Scholarship is awarded to third-year medical students who demonstrate an interest in rural medicine.
Health Promotion grant program
The AMA Emerging Leaders in Health Promotion grant program supports advocacy initiatives of physicians-in-training.
Primary Care Leadership Bursary
The Alberta Medical Association (AMA) Primary Care Alliance Board is awarding bursaries to AMA members working within primary care who are planning to attend the LEADS-certified facilitator training in Calgary, October 3-7.
TD Insurance Meloche Monnex/AMA Scholarship
This scholarship was established with funding from TD Insurance Meloche Monnex to help physicians meet Alberta's changing medical needs.
