Alberta Sexual Assault Course and Conference

The Alberta Sexual Assault Course and Conference is designed to share core training and provide management updates for urban and rural healthcare professionals caring for patients that have experienced sexual violence. The course endeavours to provide broad training with sessions that are tailored to both medical and non-medical professionals. Examples of course topics include completing sexual assault examination kits, communication tools for connection after trauma, sexual violence in digital spaces and understanding investigative processes.

Learning objectives

At the end of this course, learners will be equipped to:

  • Recognize the impact of trauma and ways to provide trauma informed care.
  • Describe how to complete a Sexual Assault Examination (medical or forensic).
  • Discuss current sexual violence investigative processes and methods.
  • Review emerging issues and trends in sexual violence.
