What's next for secure messaging?

January 23, 2018

You may have heard that the AMA will be dissolving its dr2dr partnership with Microquest this month. This decision is a result of the ever changing secure messaging landscape and increased number of viable secure messaging solutions available in Alberta. The AMA Board feels that AMA dr2dr Secure Messaging has primed the market and, to best serve its members, the focus should be on supporting interoperability to enable the secure messaging solutions to communicate with each other.

Vendor collaboration across all major stakeholders is a necessary first step in enabling communications across solutions. There has been recent movement in this area so we are hopeful that a secure messaging standard is imminent.

Microquest has been obliging and receptive to the AMA, and dr2dr remains a quality, viable secure messaging product. Microquest remains dedicated to Alberta and is standing behind their dr2dr solution with plans to continue to enhance the product to meet the needs of physicians in Alberta.
