MD Financial Management and Scotiabank support the Alberta Medical Association

May 10, 2022

We are pleased to share that the Alberta Medical Association has joined seven other provincial and territorial medical associations (PTMAs), now representing more than 44,000 physicians, in choosing to enter into an exclusive five-year agreement with MD Financial Management Inc. (MD) and Scotiabank.

Through long-term relationships with 39 organizations, MD and Scotiabank have demonstrated their commitment to providing support and resources to Canada’s physicians and their families. Together, we share physician-focused values that help build sustainability in Canada’s health care system.

Why did we choose MD and Scotiabank?

MD and Scotiabank have a history of collaboration with Canada’s PTMAs, including with the AMA. MD, Scotiabank and the AMA are focused on providing unparalleled services and support for physicians.

With more than 50 years of physician-focused experience, MD is the only national financial services firm dedicated exclusively to supporting the financial well-being of Canada’s physicians and their families.

As a leading bank in the Americas, Scotiabank helps customers, their families and their communities achieve success through a broad range of advice, products and services. Through the Scotiabank Healthcare+ Physician Banking Program, physicians have access to a robust suite of solutions and services that have been customized to meet their banking needs at every career stage.

MD and Scotiabank are firmly committed to putting physicians first. As proof of this commitment, MD and Scotiabank, in collaboration with the Canadian Medical Association, are investing $115 million over 10 years to support physicians and the communities they serve across Canada. Several grassroots programs and initiatives have been undertaken in Alberta, including:

  • A $250,000 contribution in support of Alberta doctors through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • A $1 million commitment – $250,000 a year over four years — to support Alberta physicians, residents and medical students as part of a Physician Wellness+ Initiative.
  • In March 2019, $1.6 million to support Well Doc Alberta – an initiative focused on pan-provincial physician wellness.

Together, these and other initiatives demonstrate MD and Scotiabank's deep commitment to PTMAs, to our staff and — most importantly— to you, our members. As AMA’s exclusive financial partners, MD and Scotiabank strive to provide the AMA and its members with valuable educational resources, including:

  • webinars and seminars on physician finances for all career stages
  • regular financial articles in the AMA’s monthly newsletter and other publications
  • a dedicated financial resources page available through AMA’s website

AMA members can request a second opinion from MD to make informed financial decisions, regardless of who they bank or invest with. MD is always happy to meet physicians who are interested in learning about the holistic financial planning they offer.
