2022 Medical Liability Reimbursement top-up payments

March 27, 2023

Dr. Fredrykka Rinaldi, AMA PresidentDear Members,

I am writing to share with you information about the 2022 Medical Liability Reimbursement top-up payments that will be issued shortly by Alberta Health.

Under the agreement, the MLR deductible for all physicians was reduced to $1,000 effective for the 2022 calendar year. That means physicians who were reimbursed for 2022 by Alberta Health based on a higher deductible will receive an additional reimbursement from Alberta Health. This primarily affects urban specialist physicians because the deductible for family physicians and rural physicians was already set at $1,000. Alberta Health has confirmed that those payments should be deposited to your accounts by March 31, 2023. Those top-up payments will be issued automatically and no further steps are required by physicians.

If you have any questions regarding the Government of Alberta 2022 MLR reimbursement top-up payments, please email: health.mlrprogram@gov.ab.ca.

You are always welcome to share your thoughts with me. You can email me via president@albertadoctors.org. You can also comment on this letter on the AMA website.

Regards,

fred Rinaldi, MD, CCFP, FCFP, LLB, MBA, MPA(HSA), BCom
