Introducing our new Executive Director

August 1, 2023

Dr. Fredrykka Rinaldi, AMA President

Dear Members,

After more than 30 years of service to the Alberta Medical Association, our Executive Director (ED) Mike Gormley is retiring October 1. There will be more to say about his departure, but I am writing today to let you know that the Board of Directors has conducted an exhaustive search and appointed his successor.

The new ED will be Athana Mentzelopoulos. Beginning September 1, transition of responsibilities from Mike will occur with Athana formally assuming the role October 1, 2023.

As ED, she will be responsible to the AMA Board of Directors through the president and Executive Committee for direction and administration of the day-to-day affairs of the AMA, as well as assisting with policy and program development and implementation.

Athana has extensive experience in senior roles, at both the provincial (Alberta and BC) and federal level (including Health Canada), as well as other federal and provincial organizations such as Alberta Health Services. We look forward to working with her and all that she brings to her new role.

You are always welcome to share your thoughts with me. You can email me via president@albertadoctors.org. You can also comment on this letter on the AMA website.

Regards,

fred Rinaldi, MD, CCFP, FCFP, LLB, MBA, MPA(HSA), BCom
