Joint AMA-AH statement:

Any pending changes to payment rates or programs will be halted until negotiations conclude

April 1, 2022

Dear Members,

As you know we have been continuing interest-based negotiations with government. I wrote to you on March 27 to advise that, based on recent conversations with Alberta Health, there would be no changes – planned or otherwise – to stipends come March 31.

I also indicated that a joint announcement with AH would be made this week to formalize the announcement. That joint statement was just released late this afternoon. This is very positive news, allowing us space to work toward a new agreement. As you know, the AMA believes this should include a comprehensive physician compensation framework that considers all aspects of physician compensation.

To hear more about our negotiations and the issues and interests we are bringing forward on your behalf, please join us for a member-only webinar on Tuesday, April 5 from 6 – 8 p.m. The webinar is being hosted by the Section of Family Medicine, Section of Rural Medicine and Specialty Care Alliance and will include a presentation, followed by a Q & A session with all attendees. You can REGISTER HERE for the April 5 webinar. We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,
