No changes to stipend programs on June 30

June 21, 2022

Dr. Vesta Michelle Warren, AMA President

Dear Members,

AHS Stipends and AHS Overhead

We know many physicians are affected by the upcoming June 30 planned deadline for stipend contracts. Via a joint statement this morning, government and the Alberta Medical Association are announcing that, “no action will be taken on June 30, 2022, with respect to Alberta Health Services (AHS) stipends or AHS overhead. Any future actions Alberta Health or AHS make relating to either stipends or overhead, will only be taken after appropriate notice has been provided to the AMA and impacted groups to consider their options.”

Next up for care deficit advocacy

Later this week we expect to release Issue 6 in our Care Deficit Assessment Series on the subject of rural medicine. Working with the Section of Rural Medicine, we outline the challenges facing these colleagues and our rural communities. We also lay out solutions that physicians think could make a difference and help to restore some stability to this unique and highly stressed area of medicine.

You can reach me any time in the following ways:

  • Communicate with me privately and directly by email if you would like a reply: president@albertadoctors.org.
  • Comment publicly on this President’s Letter (please be aware that comments are public, i.e., not members-only, even if you are logged in as a member).

Sincerely,

Vesta Michelle Warren, MD, CCFP, FCFP
President, Alberta Medical Association
