Watch party leaders at AMA's health care town hall

May 23, 2023

Dr. Fredrykka Rinaldi, AMA President

Dear Members,

Last night the AMA hosted a virtual patient town hall about health care with Ms. Danielle Smith and Ms. Rachel Notley. A recording of the town hall is now available for viewing. More than 2,200 patients joined the virtual event on a long weekend Monday evening.

This event was by invitation only to the 48,000 members of our PatientsFirst.ca online community. Media were not invited. We received over 1,000 submissions from patients who had questions for the parties. It was hard to whittle the list down for a one-hour session. We hope to post a few patient videos in the days ahead covering questions that we weren’t able to address during the event.

This town hall was held to give interested patients the chance to hear directly from the parties. It was also to thank the loyal members of PatientsFirst.ca. Since 2020 they have shown so much support for physicians and the health care system, writing thousands of letters, taking surveys to help measure the care deficit and generally staying in touch and engaged. We are very grateful for them.

Sincere thanks to Ms. Notley and Ms. Smith for making this event part of the last week of their campaigns.

You are always welcome to share your thoughts with me. You can email me via president@albertadoctors.org. You can also comment on this letter on the AMA website.

Regards,

The AMA and its leadership has done an excellent job of stimulating public interest and involvement. Let us hope this will make for a better informed voter turnout on 29th.

I was surprised and interested to learn that two previous UCP ministers have publicized their disatisfaction with the present leadership and will vote against the UCP..

This is a most interesting election. May the best win!
