MAPS message from Alberta Health

March 17, 2023

The MAPS initiative was announced by the Minister of Health in September 2022 to strengthen primary health care in Alberta and ensure all people in Alberta have access to timely, appropriate primary health care services. A critical priority has been on improving primary health care for people living and working in rural and remote parts of the province. Early opportunities for investment in stabilizing the primary health care system (both strategic and Indigenous-specific) were announced on February 21, 2023, along with $125 Million in funding in Budget 2023.

The objectives for this session are to:

  • Share progress of the MAPS initiative.
  • Affirm key primary health care priorities and opportunities for rural and remote communities in Alberta based on what we heard from the MAPS Innovation Forum.
  • Discuss future planning and implementation considerations for the MAPS recommendations.

Here is an agenda (with context setting slides) for the engagement and an overview of the MAPS initiative attached to this email. Other background documents are publicly available through the links above.
