Many physicians struggle with a harsh inner critic, perfectionism, and over-functioning. Cultivating self-compassion is a proven antidote when these strategies are no longer helpful. Kristin Neff PhD pioneered the field of self-compassion research, and it shows that people with high levels of self-compassion have:

  • The same high standards as their peers but they experience increased happiness, optimism and life satisfaction.
  • More satisfying connections and relationships.
  • Increased motivation and emotional stability, and resilience.

This talk will present theory and research on self-compassion, which a burgeoning empirical literature has shown to be powerfully associated with psychological wellbeing. It will also discuss the crucial role that self-compassion plays for healthcare professionals in order to reduce burnout. A practice will be taught that can help individuals maintain balance in difficult situations involving caring for others.

You will leave this presentation knowing you are not alone and with the key to supporting yourself through the power of self-compassion.

At the end of her presentation, there will be a short Q&A period.
